HIBERNIANS TO PRESENT FREEDOM GRANTS
Hibernians will present Freedom for all Ireland (FFAI) grants to 15 applicants, this Saturday, August 28th, in a live webinar broadcast from the Houben Centre, located on the grounds of Holy Cross Church in Ardoyne, Belfast. The presentations will feature grant recipients speaking to Hibernians across the United States, about each group's work and how much they count on American help. The webinar broadcast will begin at 12 noon Eastern Daylight Time and 5pm in Ireland.
RECORD
Each year the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH), make a Christmas Appeal to raise funds for grants to groups working for freedom for all Ireland. This year members of the AOH and LAOH, set a new record, with members contributing more than $100,000, despite a pandemic.
It is especially significant that the broadcast will come from the grounds of Holy Cross, where 20 years ago Catholic girls at were subjected to a vicious campaign of sectarian abuse on their way to attend the primary school. The Houben Centre has been a major recipient of FFAI Christmas Appeal support.
Others awarded grants this year are the Ballymurphy Massacre Campaign, which won its fifty year battle for an inquest, and the Bloody Sunday Trust, which will mark its fiftieth anniversary in January. Groups fighting for legacy truth were led by Relatives for Justice and the Witness Project. The EALU center was awarded a grant for its work with Republican ex-political prisoners in Tyrone.
A heritage grant was awarded to the St.Patrick Centre. As we mark the 40th anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strikers, Belfast National Graves and Tyrone National Graves were awarded grants.
Green Cross, Duchas-Oriall, Greater New Lodge Commemoration Committee, Bridges Beyond Boxing, Down Patriot Graves and the O’Neill-Allsop Memorial Band will also be grant recipients.
HISTORY MAKING FIRST
Before last year, awards presentations were only seen by Hibernian officers and members able to travel to Ireland. In what AOH National President Danny O'Connell termed a "history making first” Hibernians across America heard speakers representing each grant explain their work.
The broadcast will include the respective National Presidents Danny O'Connell and Karen Keane and FFAI Chairs Martin Galvin and Dolores Desch.

GUEST SPEAKERS
"On July 9th 1972, only eleven months after the Ballymurphy Massacre, British troopers murdered five people including Catholic priest Fr. Noel Fitzpatrick, Paul Butler, Margaret Gargan 13, John Dougal 16, and David McCafferty 16, in the Springhill-Westrock Massacre. Jacqueline Butler, the daughter of Paul Butler, will talk about their battle for truth 49 years later.
Stephen Travers was a member of the ‘Miami Showband’, returning from a performance when they were flagged by what seemed a routine British army checkpoint near Newry. They were ordered to stand by the road with their hands on their heads, while the uniformed men checked their van. Two of the uniformed men – later revealed as members of the Ulster Defense Regiment – were planting a bomb under the driver’s seat when it exploded, killing both of them. The others opened fire, killing bandsmen Fran O’Toole, Brian McCoy, and Tony Geraghty. Stephen Travers will explain why he is suing the British Ministry of Defense and PSNI Constabulary Chief Constable to lean the truth about British state involvement.
Martin Mallon- a well known Republican in East Tyrone, will describe how his aunt Roseanne Mallon 76 was shot by loyalists using the same weapons used in 17 collusion murders including American citizen my friend Liam Ryan
These speakers are appealing to America and the AOH, because they believe that American pressure can stop Britain from closing down their chances for justice and the truth.

Webinar: A Conversation with Geraldine Finucane
Saturday June 19 at 12:00 pm Eastern
Geraldine Finucane and her family have actively led a campaign in the UK for a full public inquiry into the February 12,1989 murder of her husband Pat Finucane. Over the years the family have pushed for answers, leading to multiple investigations. The results of these investigations has revealed evidence pointing to loyalist paramilitary collusion with British security forces. In 2012, PM David Cameron admitted that there were ‘shocking levels of collusion’ in the Pat Finucane Murder. https://www.theguardian.com/.../david-cameron-pat... While he issued a public apology, he denied the Finucane family’s request for a full public inquiry. The significance of this admission by Cameron served to reinforce the campaign. In 2019 the family took their case to the UK Supreme Court which issued a unanimous decision that in the murder of Pat Finucane the UK had failed to uphold Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Yet to date the family’s request for a full public inquiry have been denied by the British government. By challenging the delay and deny strategy of the state every step of the way Geraldine Finucane serves as an inspiration to all victims and their families. Later this year she will be presented with the 2021 LAOH-AOH Sean McBride Humanitarian Award for the work she has done to help and inspire so many victims seeking justice. On the webinar panel Geraldine will be joined by her daughter Kathleen Finucane and journalist Andree Murphy, Deputy Director at Relatives for Justice. Please join us on Saturday June 19 as we hear in her own words what this journey has been like for Geraldine and her family and what the next steps are in this campaign for justice.

“The Ballymurphy Massacre families will give a special webinar briefing on the inquest verdicts in their fifty year fight for justice for 11 loved ones killed by British troopers, on Saturday May 15th.Campaign leader, John Teggart, will be joined by two other Massacre victims' relatives Briege Voyle and Carmel Quinn, as well as solicitor Paddy Murray. The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) will host the live zoom webinar briefing, beginning at 11am Eastern Time and 4pm Irish time, with Hibernians, Irish leaders and members of other Irish organizations across the United States joining live.
“Since August 1971 the Ballymurphy Massacre families maintained that 11 people, including Catholic priest Fr. Hugh Mullan, and mother of 8 children Joan Connolly were murdered over a three day period by British troopers. The British government justified each killing and exonerated its troopers with legal excuses that made each of the victims guilty. On May 11th, Justice Siobhan Keegan will publish her verdicts and findings about the ten victims who were shot, while an eleventh victim, Paddy McCarthy, died of a heart attack caused by being brutalized.
“This May 15th briefing, arranged for family members to give their feelings about the verdicts, will now include their firsthand reaction to rumored amnesty or legacy whitewash proposals, timed to be announced on the same day in the British Queen’s speech. Irish leaders and members of Irish-American organizations including the, Irish American Unity Conference, Brehons, Irish Northern Aid and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians have been invited to join and respond to the Massacre verdicts and any announced British amnesty, or legacy whitewash proposals.

message from Ray Lynch Florida State AOH President:
Good Evening Brothers,
I'm sending a reminder about the Major Degree ceremony being held at St Martin dePorres Catholic Church, 2555 NE Savannah Rd, Jensen Beach FL on June 4th at 1pm (registration is at12pm). If you have not received your Major Degree as of yet, we have learned through past experiences that if a member attends the Degree they come out with a renewed understanding of the calling to our Order and a willingness to bring their personal participation to a greater level. Many not only step up at the Division level, but pursue elected positions at County, State and National as well. This is an important function of the Order if you are, or desire to be in the future, a Division President, Vice President or hold any of the State Board or Nationally elected positions, please take advantage of this being in your "back yard".
We've received a few registrations already, but the more the merrier! Come on out and join your Brother Hibernians and learn the lessons of the Order. There will be refreshments for all who attend after the ceremony.
Also remember: If you currently hold the position of Division President or Vice President, the National Constitution and the FL State By-laws require you to hold you Major Degree. Please get this important function completed by June 4th. This is still a few weeks out, that is plenty of time to get this on your calendar...
Stay Blessed,
Stay Blessed,
In Friendship, Unity, & Christian Charity
